Machine-Made Histories Wednesday, 5 August 2020 6.00pm - 7.00pm (ACST) Presented in partnership with the Oxford University Society (South Australia), Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington, Deputy Vice Chancellor: Research and Enterprise (UniSA) discusses how historical machines can make recommendations about our lives that can sometimes be of no benefit to us, and how we might think about instructing and supervising them differently so that the past and the future are matters of ethics that we can more actively shape. Aboriginal Children Speak: Criminal Responsibility and the Rights of the Child Tuesday, 4 August 2020 6.00pm - 7.15pm (ACST) The film In My Blood It Runs has launched worldwide with astounding engagement from all walks of life. Facilitated by Professor Stan Grant, our panel of experts will consider the issues explored in the film through discussion on the rights of Aboriginal children in relation to criminality, Australian and International laws, and hearing Aboriginal children speak. Slaves in the System: Panel Discussion Thursday, 6 August 2020 6.00pm - 7.15pm (ACST) Modern slavery exists across the world, and Australia is no exception, but Australia can take a global leadership role in combating modern slavery. Presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, as part of the Just A Thought series, our panel will discuss the prevalence of modern slavery in Australia and across the globe. Discussion will also consider how Australia exacerbates the global slavery problem by importing products that are potentially produced through forced labour, and what we can do to remove slavery in our supply chains. Real Stories and Informed Thinking around Mental Health Listen Now The Mental Health Podcasts Series is a joint Communities of Practice initiative between nurse leaders from SA Health and academics from the University of South Australia's Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Research Group. Designed to share fresh thinking in contemporary mental health practice, involving the voices of consumers, carers, practitioners and policymakers, revealing what they think, feel, say and do to achieve best practice. Treasures from the Islamic Civilisation Golden Age Watch Now The Islamic Golden Age is one of the most important, yet overlooked, periods in human history. Spanning from about 750 to 1600, it presented advancements in human intellect which covers religious studies, artistic, culture, science and knowledge, including architecture, art, physics, algebra, geography, agriculture and medicine. Behind these advancements were giants and influential figures like Al-Bukhari, Al-Tabri, Al-biruni, Avicenna and Averroes just to name a few. This webinar, presented by Dr Nezar Faris and the Centre for Islamic Thought and Education (CITE), will just scratch the surface of this period highlighting some of the milestones and giants of the Islamic golden age. Sanaa: A Better World Through Creativity Until Wednesday, 29 July 2020 Sanaa Exhibition returns to The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, showcasing the work of previous Sanaa artists from across the African continent. Work from the 2018, 2019 and 2020 exhibitions will be on display, as well as the work from Ugandan artist Wamala - who undertook the inaugural 2020 Sanaa Artist Residency, supported by Lipman Karas and Nexus Arts. The artwork, which is for sale, is a colourful selection of canvases evoking feelings of a contemporary Africa. More information here.

Art By Prisoners – The Written Edition Monday, 3 August – Friday, 28 August 2020 The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and Department for Correctional Services present a compilation of written works by prisoners across South Australia as part of an online exhibition and an expansion of the Life Sentences portion of previous Art by Prisoners exhibitions. The ART in heART Monday, 6 July – Friday, 28 August 2020 Presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre's Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, The ART in heART exhibition showcases artworks by local emerging artists attending workshops run by Neami National, a community mental health service supporting people living with mental health issues to improve their health, live independently and pursue a life based on their own strengths, values and goals.
