Levelling the Playing Field: The Refugee Reality in Sport

Thursday, 24 June 2021
6.00pm to 7.30pm (ACST)

Is sport really the great leveller? On the surface the same rules apply to all participants, uniting people from every age, race and cultural background. But sports participation rates for refugee and CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) groups are significantly lower than the general population. What unwritten rules and unacknowledged barriers do CALD groups face and how can they be overcome? A premier 2021 Refugee Week event, this conversation presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and Australian Refugee Association (ARA) will shed light on these important questions. Panellists include: Bruce Djite, Anyier Yuol, Mohamed Toure, Nader Ibrahim and Halima Alizadah. Details here.

Even well-thought out solutions can have unexpected and unintended consequences. Like trying to wipe out malaria but ending up with parachuting cats. Join us to raise a Tamagotchi-inspired octopus, build robots and hack the immune system. IT'S COMPLICATED pulls back the curtain on the seemingly simple and reveals just how complicated, and complex, the world can be. More information here.
